Wonderful 19th century plaster statue of Dionysus. Large scale and in a beautifully weathered condition to a patinated verdigris colour from years spent exposed to the elements.

Standing on typical neoclassical plinth with surface level cracking to the legs.

Dionysus; the god of wine, revelry, theater, fertility, and ritual madness. He represents both the intoxicating and chaotic nature of life, as well as the creative forces that drive art and culture. Often depicted as a youthful, androgynous figure with flowing hair. Unlike many gods who stayed on Mount Olympus, Dionysus traveled widely, bringing wine and festivities to the people.
